Hi, this is Chuck Martin. We're at the AI Summit in New York City, and I'm happy to say I have with me today, Latoya Ojier, Director of Optum Advisory Services. Welcome.
Latoya Ojier:
Thanks, Chuck. I'm very excited to be here.
The Role of Technology in Healthcare
Chuck Martin:
So you're a nurse, and we're dealing with AI. Tell me how that connects.
Latoya Ojier:
That's so important because, believe it or not, in healthcare, we use a lot of technology to enhance patient care and ensure we're delivering optimal care to our patients. So for me, representing healthcare at the summit this year, I plan to learn as much as I can and translate that back into healthcare to deliver excellent care for our patients.
Innovative Healthcare Solutions with AI
Chuck Martin:
So what kinds of things are you looking for in AI?
Latoya Ojier:
As a nurse executive, we develop many innovative programs that can enhance the way we deliver care to patients. I lead the Ambulatory Care Management pillar within our organization, and we use solution-building techniques such as risk stratification methodologies. We also explore ways to predict necessary interventions for patients before their conditions worsen, preventing hospital visits.
AI's Role in Enhancing Patient Care Delivery
Chuck Martin:
So where does AI fit in that?
Latoya Ojier:
AI fits into our solution-building process for improving care delivery. For instance, we can use chatbots to interact with community members rather than having clinical nurses constantly call patients. We also explore ways to automate clinical documentation for clinicians so they can spend more time educating patients without the burden of excessive paperwork.
Addressing Privacy and Confidentiality in AI Systems
Chuck Martin:
So you must be dealing with privacy issues. Where does that fit?
Latoya Ojier:
Privacy is at the forefront of everything we do. Healthcare is heavily regulated, and we must implement safeguards that protect privacy and confidentiality. We secure all important healthcare information and comply with privacy and confidentiality regulations. Protecting patient data is crucial, especially as we share information between payers and providers.
Future Goals for AI in Healthcare
Chuck Martin:
What's the biggest thing you want to get from this summit?
Latoya Ojier:
I love networking and learning from various vendors. It's exciting to see what's available and how we can leverage new technologies to support care management across hospital and ambulatory spaces as we look ahead to 2024.

Chuck Martin:
So, a year from now, if we're having the same conversation, what would we be talking about? Would you consider yourself an expert by then?
Latoya Ojier:
Yes, I'm part of the Visionaries Community, and attending those roundtables has been incredibly informative. It has significantly enhanced my knowledge of AI, and I look forward to growing even more in this space.
