Chastity Murphy

Chastity Murphy is a fellow and visiting scholar at the University of Manchester, where she researches technology’s impact on marginalized communities, with a focus on e-cash. She is also a Leadership in Government Fellow with the Open Society Foundations. Previously, she served as Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Financial Institutions, overseeing AI, crypto, digital assets, consumer protection, and financial inclusion. She played a key role in the American Rescue Plan’s state and local recovery programs and advised Rep. Rashida Tlaib on e-cash, stablecoins, and financial reform. Earlier, she worked with Rep. Marcia Fudge and at the Federal Reserve Board. Her work has been featured twice in Forbes. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Economics from South Carolina State University.
