Evan Curtin
Principal Applied Scientist,
Relativity
Evan Curtin is a Principal Applied Scientist at Relativity, where he works on evaluating generative AI products and building experimentation frameworks to keep them reliable in high-stakes settings. Over the past three years, he has focused on applying GenAI to legal technology, tackling the challenge of balancing innovation with trust in a domain where accuracy is non-negotiable. Before Relativity, Evan built large-scale machine learning systems in other sensitive areas, including a fraud detection model at Capital One that evaluated tens of millions of credit card transactions each day. He began his career as a chemist, earning an M.S. in Computational Chemistry and completing three years of PhD research before shifting into industry. That training gave him a lasting respect for rigor and measurement — habits he now applies to AI. With experience across science, finance, and law, he has a practical view of where AI fails and how to measure it honestly. His focus is on building AI systems that earn trust, not just attention.
